$45 Google AIY Vision Kit Now Available To Preorder

Following on from the Google AIY Projects created and launched earlier this year to help makers experiment with and learn about artificial intelligence and the release of the first AIY Voice Kit, which was also available from the Raspberry Pi Foundation on an issue of their awesome Raspberry Pi Magazine back in May. Google has today announced that the latest AIY Project, the Vision Kit is now available to preorder through Micro Center and will be available in stores during December 2017. Don’t forget you will also need a Raspberry Pi Zero W, Raspberry Pi Camera and a micro SD card, all of which which must be purchased separately, unless you have them already.

The main component of the AIY Vision Kit is the VisionBonnet board for Raspberry Pi, which features the Intel Movidius MA2450, a low-power vision processing unit capable of running neural network models on-device. The kit includes a cardboard outer shell, the VisionBonnet circuit board, an RGB arcade-style button, a piezo speaker, a macro/wide lens kit, a tripod mounting nut and other connecting components. Example project that can be created using the Google AIY Vision Kit :

• Identify all kinds of plant and animal species
• See when your dog is at the back door
• See when your car left the driveway
• See that your guests are delighted by your holiday decorations
• See when your little brother comes into your room (sound the alarm!)

With the AIY Vision Kit from Google, you can add image recognition and computer vision features to your Raspberry Pi Zero W based projects. Bring your project to life using a camera and our AIY Vision Bonnet, featuring on-device neural network acceleration – no internet connection required. Google includes fully-trained computer vision models, based on MobileNets, that can recognize over a thousand common objects and facial expressions.Python API to manipulate the RGB arcade button, piezo element sounds and microcontroller to manage 4 GPIO pins.
